‘They have been honoured for their contributions in the arena of knowledge
Dhaka University Alumni Association (DUAA) on Sunday awarded gold medals to six professor emeritus of Dhaka University (DU), along with Justice Ibrahim Chowdhury (posthumous), for their outstanding contribution to the society.
The awards were handed over to the recipients Professor Sultana Sarwatara Jaman, Prof Abdul Motin, Prof Abul Kalam Azad Chowdhury, Prof Nazma Chowdhury, Prof Anisuzzaman and Prof Sirajul Islam Chowdhury.
The program was held at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building alumni floor, marking the 69th founding anniversary of the association.
Bushra Chowdhury, daughter of Prof Nazma Chowdhury, received the award on behalf of her mother while the other professor emeritus were present during the program to receive their medals.
The first female National Professor of Bangladesh, Prof Sufia Ahmed, and daughter of Justice Ibrahim Chowdhury (posthumous), the founding president of the alumni association, received Justice Ibrahim’s award.
Presided over by A. K. Azad the President of DUAA, Finance Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhith, addressing the session as chief guest, said, “They have been honoured for their contributions in the arena of knowledge.”
The Minister also praised DUAA’s role in the development of the university and said, “DUAA has not only contributed to infrastructural development of the university, but has also enriched the knowledge base of the institution.”
Temporarily appointed VC of DU, Prof. Akhtaruzzaman, addressing the session as special guest said, “No one can measure the dignity of Dhaka University teachers, as well as Dhaka University. All of them are best.”
Around a 1,000 of the alumnus of DU were present at the two hour long program.
