Sirhan Sharif Tomal was arrested in May this year after he had attacked and vandalized the house of a Chhatra League leader in Ishwardi
Sirhan Sharif Tomal, son of Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif, and his entourage on Wednesday assaulted a group of print and TV journalists.
The journalists were covering an attack on rival ruling party leader’s convoy in Pabna’s Ishwardi.
Four journalists sustained injuries during the melee. They are Saikat Afroz Asad, correspondent of Somoy Tv and daily Bangladesh Pratidin;
Rizvi Raisul Islam Joy, correspondent of ATN News; Partho Hasan and Milon Hossain, correspondent and cameraman respectively of DBC News.
The injured journalists have been admitted to Pabna General Hospital.

The Dhaka Tribune received a footage of the incident which shows Tomal, president of Ishwardi upazila unit of Jubo League, and his cohorts swooping on the journalists while they were shooting the minister’s son and his associates assaulting and vandalizing the convoy of Rabiul Alam Budu, general secretary of Awami League Central Sub-Committee.
No one has been arrested in this connection.
Confirming the incident, Azim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Ishwardi police station, said police is yet to receive an official complaint.
Tomal was arrested in May this year after he had attacked and vandalized the house of a Chhatra League leader in Ishwardi.
According to the case statement, Tomal and 10 other men vandalized the house of upazila Chhatra League President Jubaer Biswas in Aminpara on May 18 over establishing supremacy in the area.
The attackers also damaged a shop of Ishwardi Municipality Mayor Abul Kalam Azad Mintu, also the son-in-law of Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif, and the house of Ishwardi AL leader Shariful Islam in the same area.
