According to Muslim belief, Shab-e-Barat is the night when Allah determines our fates for the following year
The holy Shab-e-Barat, or the night of fortune and forgiveness, was observed in Bangladesh Tuesday with due religious fervour.
According to Muslim belief, Shab-e-Barat is the night when Allah decides on our fate for the following year.
On this night, Allah sets the destinies of all creation for the coming year by taking into account their past deeds.
Muslim devotees offered special prayers, recite from the Holy Quran, hold milads venerating Muhammad (PBUH), do zikr, or incantations repeating Allah’s name, and other religious rituals seeking divine blessings for the wellbeing of mankind.
Many passed the whole night in prayer.
Many also visited the graves of relatives and Muslim saints, distributing sweets and homemade food among the poor, their neighbours, friends, and relatives.
The Islamic Foundation arranged various programmes, including religious sermons, recitation from the Holy Quran, singing hamd-na’t in veneration of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), offering dua and special prayers on the occasion.
Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar, and private TV channels and radio stations aired special programmes, while newspapers published articles highlighting the significance of the night.
Meanwhile, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the occasion.
Also, BNP on Tuesday arranged a milad mahfil marking the holy Shab-e-Barat, held on the ground floor of the party’s Naya Paltan central office.
