Thai Airways official fined Tk2 lakh for misbehaving with passengers at Dhaka airport

The incident took place on Sunday

The duty manager of Thai Airways has been fined Tk2 lakh for behaving rudely towards two passengers at the Dhaka international airport.

Airport magistrate court slapped the fine on Selim Mustaq on Sunday.

Sources at the airport said Farzana and her ailing husband were scheduled to fly to Bangkok on flight TG 322 at 1:40pm.

The couple was waiting at the business lounge after check-in. Farzana said they were slower to walk to the flight boarding gate than other passengers as her husband was sick.

Thai Airways Duty Manager Mustaq behaved rudely towards them at the boarding bridge and the couple refused to board the flight, Farzana said. The duty manager offloaded their baggage.

Farzana filed a complaint with immigration police. The immigration officials sent them to the airport magistrate court. After hearing both sides, the court fined Mustaq Tk2 lakh.

Executive Magistrate Muhammad Yusuf said: “Tk2 lakh has been fined under Consumers’ Right Protection Act after hearing the passengers’ complaint and admission of guilt by Thai Airways Duty Manager Selim Mustaq.

“The passengers have been given Tk50,000 out of the fine as per law and we have ensured that they could fly to Bangkok on the next available flight.”
